We, the HURON family, and the whole human rights community are shocked and saddened by the sad demise of the founding president and patron of HURON, MR. RISHIKESH SHAHA at 1 a.m. on 14 November 2002.
Mr. Shaha the pioneer and champion of human rights movement in Nepal, took challenging task of forming 'Human Rights Organization of Nepal' for the first time in Nepal on 10th December 1988 at the time of autocratic party less Panchayat system.
The great role Mr. Shaha had played in restoration of multiparty democracy in Nepal has been written in the glorious pages of history and human rights movement of Nepal. The nation never forgets the crucial and leading role and unwavering endeavor for the promotion and protection of fundamental people's rights and civil liberty.
Mr. Shaha, the senior politician, political historian of Nepal and scholar statesman, had been president of HURON from 1988 till 1996 and patron since then. Mr. Shaha, the eldest son of Raja Tarak Bahadur Shaha and Rani Dibyasori Rana, was born on 16th May 1925 and passed away at the age of 78 and he survived with a son, Prakas Shaha.
HURON expresses its heartfelt condolence to the departed soul of Mr. Shaha and prays the god to give the soul a room in heaven.
