Prof. Kapil Shrestha
(1996-2000)

Professor Kapil Shrestha was elected as the second President of the Human Rights Organization of Nepal (HURON) by the 5th National Convention in 1996, serving until 2000. His leadership was instrumental in advancing the human rights movement in Nepal, particularly through HURON’s active involvement in the establishment of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), where he later served as a Commissioner from 2000 to 2005.

As a distinguished scholar, Prof. Shrestha held a professorship at the Central Department of Political Science at Tribhuvan University. His scholarly interests include political theory, philosophy, South Asian politics, human rights, and development. Widely published in both Nepali and English, his contributions to human rights discourse and academic scholarship have been recognized both nationally and internationally. He currently serves as Ambassador of Nepal to South Africa.
